The noises of the night Pokemon, and the light hollow breeze was the only sound as he rested against the cool wall of the building. Ash smile softly as the events from earlier played out.
The thrill of the battle,
the look on the _his_ face,
the sweet taste of victory..
More like bittersweet. Ash thought with a grumble. Crossing his arms, the young boy shifted. The battle was a fierce one, the power he felt and his heart pounding hard against his ribcage.
Everything felt like a dream, when the announcer shouted out the winner. The thought of actually beating him..the one that seems to always be one step ahead of him, always there to rub in _his_ moments, always there with a smirk and fire in his eyes as he looked down at Ash. Yet there was times, when there didn't seem like a way out, and he would be there...whether to save him, or give him a rare honest smile.
Ash sighed, some people would of drop any chance of become closer to someone as cruel as Gary...
but how do you drop the fact that, that one person, that one person who sneer and insulted you once saved your life?
The city's air seem to drop a few more degrees. The lamp post near him shone brightly on the lonely bench. Another sigh escape Ash's lips as he wander over and settle down onto it.
It was silly when he looked back on it now. Every few years a harsh storm would rage threw Pallet, making it very unwise to venture out. Yet it was only drizzling, barely a few drops of rain was coming down as he continue to follow the river's path...
***
The young boy panted as he continue to keep up with the Pokemon. A grin on his face, the rain lightly splashing him in the face. The Pokemon slither fast as it made it's way through the water, unaware of the boy following it. Ash knew about the storm, yet with just a few drops falling, he figure he had nothing to worry about. The Pokemon was what had his attention, and nothing else seem to matter at all. He had to know what it was and, and maybe he could one day have one.
It was a good ways when Ash stop and realize that the wind was picking up, and the rain was falling down harder. It stung his skin as it landed. Ash whip around, to quickly make his way back home. He didn't even get in two steps in as his foot crash down on a small rock wrongly. It cause him to lose his balance and with wide eyes he fell into the cold water.
Ash always thought that if he ever got into a tight spot he could make it out, no matter what, but as he struggle to get to the surface it was more difficult than he imagined. Once above and breathing, Ash cough as a small wave of water slapped him in the face. With a gasp of air, Ash started swimming, and it wasn't too hard, seeing how he was swimming in the same direction that the wind blew. Yet try as he might, Ash could not get to shore, it was like the Pokemon from earlier curse him and forbid him to leave the water.
In a matter of minutes the storm was upon the outskirts of Pallet, with only a wet wide eye boy as it's playmate.
***
Ash groan and rub his upper arm, a old pain was aching. A image of a body being slam rough rocks as the water wash over, play into his mind. At that time, he was afraid he wasn't going home, or see his mother again. It frighten him and in a desperation, he gripped, clawed, _anything_ at one of the rocks. He could almost taste the blood in his mouth, feel the cuts on his face, see the blood trailing down his arms and to be clean away with the harsh river.
and then he appear.
Ash never figure out how Gary knew he was there. The older boy by three months, wasn't the nicest person in town. He had heard once from one of the many chit-chats between Prof. Oak and his mother that Gary tended to be alone after what happened in his family.
Back then, Ash could still remember how in awe he was in of the older boy. Gary just seem unstoppable. He had no fear, always jumping first for a challenge. At the time Ash wasn't aware of it, but as he looked back, he was right behind the other boy. If Gary enjoyed racing threw the forest area, Ash find himself enjoying as well. It didn't matter what the auburn hair boy did, Ash just had to be right there behind him...always second.
and that was before the whole-life-saving-moment.
The stars above him, shine bright and almost in a cheerfully way. Ash smiles softly as he takes in the sight above him. He really should head back to the Pokemon Center...Brock, Misty 'n Pikachu were probably worried about him. Ash shook his head, before standing.
Today's battle seem off, now that he thought about it. Gary had been acting strange and very out of jerk mode. He had no doubt that Gary could of easily won, as much as it hurt to admit it. He knew Gary rotated his Pokemon, to train them all, something Ash found hard to even think about, much less actually doing it.
To Ash training was more than leveling up and evolution...making friends with Pokemon, spending time with them. That's what makes the journey more enjoyable...without choosing over which Pokemon to use and not to use.
It was like...it was like Gary had other plans or knew something he didn't.
With a low groan, Ash dug his hands into his pockets and started to make his way back to the Center.
***
A room filled with warmth and light, a small cough is heard.
"Hey you better take it easy kid."
"I know that!"
"heh...right~"
"I do!"
"Yea sure whatever squirt, look just lay down and get some rest all right? Your giving me a headache!"
"Well you don't have to watch me if I'm giving you so~ much trouble!"
"I wouldn't either, but~ your mommy is worried about her wittle baby and Gramps brought me over so she could go shopping...pfeh."
"Well I'm fine, so you can go away now!" A rough cough.
"Yea..you look so~ much better."
.......
.......
".....hey..." curls into the bed.
"What?"
"Thank you..." a tired yawn. "Gary..."
......
......
......
"......Your welcome, Ash."
***
Ash stops, the Center was just around the next turn. Standing in the middle of the sidewalk, he lower his head. Everything Gary did, he did with style, with such grace and all knowing.
"Will I ever-" Ash starts then frown as another shadow appears on the concrete. Raising his head, his dark brown eyes widen.
Gary stood there, the shadows playing across his features and that infamous smirk paste onto his lips.
"Thought I would find you around here, Ashy-boy. What do--"
"Gary." Ash interrupts.
The auburn hair boy starts, as the sad eyes of the younger boy in front stare at him.
"...what?"
"Do I annoy you that much? Did I do something that irks you? D-do you hate me?" The last of the question was escape out barely over a whisper.
"huh? What brought this on Ashy?" Gary asked, a hand on his hip, head tilted.
Ash swallow hard, before reaching over and grip onto the material of the other's shirt. "Do you? Do you hate me, Gary!? Cause..... I don't hate you! I--I look up to you! I want so much to be your friend...anything! Why do you hurt me?! WHY!?"
Gary frowns as the boy cling to him, tears pouring down his cheeks. "Ash...look-" "NO! You've always made me look and listen! You--" The tears was making Gary uncomfortable, he never did like it when Ash cried.
But then again, Ash kissing him....that wasn't on his list of 'didn't like'.
With wide eyes Ash's mind scream at him. What am I doing?! I just wanted to talk to him, not kiss him!!! Yet as he try to pull away, Gary brought his hands down and wrap his arms around Ash's back. The kiss was nothing like Gary would ever thought possible...sure the idea of kissing another boy had cross his mind, yet he never thought Ash would be on the list of kissable males.
Parting slightly, Ash figure now would be a good time to apologize or something. Yet before a word could escape his mouth, Gary lean down and kissed him again, harder and more firm. Ash could feel his face burning, whether by the lost of air or what the other boy was doing. The dark-hair boy gasp for air the second Gary pulled away. He try to at least take a step back, but the arms wrapped around him didn't give him much room to move.
"Well...that was interesting." Gary murmurs, as he grin at Ash.
Interesting? He just kissed another boy and all he can say is interesting?! Ash thought as he shifted a little. It was now that he notice his hands resting on Gary's shoulders. If Ash could he would be blushing deeper, yet seeing how he was blushing badly, he didn't think he could.
